Bulbophyllum concinnum is a miniature epiphytic orchid native to the lowland tropical forests of Southeast Asia, including India, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Borneo, and the Philippines. It grows at elevations from sea level up to about 1280m and has a creeping rhizome that produces garlicshaped pseudobulbs topped with a single narrow, lancetooblanceolate leaf that emerges pale green and matures to midgreen .
In autumn it blooms on a 7cm inflorescence held beneath the leaf, bearing umbels of up to 8 small flowers (~4mm across), typically reddishbrown with textured petals.
Like many Bulbophyllum species, it thrives in warm to hot, shaded environments with high humidity and steady moisture. Its delicate roots are prone to drying out but also dislike standing wet, so consistent moisture without saturation is important.The smaller size and humidity needs make this species wellsuited to terrarium cultivation in the UK.
